Acid straightening is getting popular these days.
Many people think it’s the same at every salon, but it’s actually very different.
Today, I want to explain how I do acid straightening at Moana Malie Hair,
in a simple and easy way.
If you have frizz, strong curls, or damaged hair,
I hope this helps you choose the right place.
① What is acid straightening? (Easy explanation)

Acid straightening uses a product with a low pH, close to natural hair.
It works slowly and gently inside the hair without strong damage.
It gives you:
-
Less damage
-
Soft and natural texture
-
A smooth finish that doesn’t feel stiff
-
Good results even on many types of damaged hair
But the most important point is this:
The result depends on how the stylist uses the product and understands your hair.
Skill and design matter more than the product itself.
② What is special about the Moana Malie Hair method?
I focus on reading your hair’s history and condition carefully.
I check:
-
Past color, perm, straightening
-
Curl strength and pattern
-
How the hair feels when I touch it
-
How stretchy or dry it is
-
The smell, which sometimes shows what chemicals were used before
This helps me decide the safest and best way to treat your hair.
③ Design is the heart of the treatment
Your roots, middle, and ends all need different care.
So I often use three different formulas on one head.
My goal is not only straight hair but a natural and beautiful finish that matches you.
I choose everything based on the final result you want.
④ Why I use an earphone during ironing

Ironing may look simple from the outside.
Many people think it is just pressing the hair with a hot iron to make it straight.
But acid straightening is very different.
With acid straightening, the result comes from two parts:
-
the product
-
the ironing technique
Each part is 50% of the final result.
It is not about just adding heat.
It is about adding the right amount of heat for the right amount of time.
Before I start ironing, I check the strength of the hair and the strength of the curl.
From this, I decide exactly how many seconds the iron should stay on each part.
The time changes depending on the condition of the hair.
This level of control is very rare in salons,
but it is something I learned from my teacher,
who trained me deeply in hair science and hair structure.
To keep the timing perfect, I use an earphone in one ear.
It gives me a signal from my timer so I can move the iron exactly on time.
This helps me avoid two big problems:
-
pressing one area for too long
-
moving too fast and not giving enough heat
Both of these can cause uneven results.
When heat touches the hair, the internal moisture inside the hair also moves.
If one section receives more heat than another,
or if one part dries too fast,
the hair can become damaged or lose its shine.
Even small timing differences can change the final result.
Many stylists do not know this, so they iron based on feeling,
but this can leave moisture in the wrong place
or remove too much moisture—both can damage the hair.
That is why I take this part very seriously.
And just to be clear—
I am not listening to music while working.
The earphone is only for my timer,
so I can give every client the most even, precise,
and beautiful result possible.
⑤ My journey to find the right products and technique

At the salon where I worked before, we sometimes had to say no to clients.
Their hair type was too strong, too bleached, or too damaged for the products we had.
I felt sad when someone came with hope but was told they couldn’t get the service.
So when I opened my salon, I wanted a method that works for:
-
Many different hair types
-
Strong curls
-
Bleached hair
I spent six months studying, testing, and searching for the right products.
Then I practiced on more than 50 models to master the technique.
Now I feel confident that this method is safe and works for many international hair types.
It’s something I’m proud to share with the world.
⑥ When I say “not this time,” it is to protect your hair
I always want to help every client,
but there are a few rare cases when straightening is not safe.
The most common situation is when the hair has been bleached many times
and is almost white.
In this condition, the hair can break by itself, even without touching it.
For example, the client in the photo had very strong damage.
Her hair was bleached a year ago, and the color was still very bright.
Because of this, the hair would break easily.
She told me that every salon she visited refused to do straightening for her.
When hair is heavily bleached, the main bonds inside the hair are broken,
and they cannot return to their original state.
This makes the curls stronger and more uncontrolled.
If you also apply an alkaline color on hair like this,
the hair can become very rough, or even melt.
But with the technique at Moana Malie Hair, straightening is still possible
in many of these difficult cases.

Even with breakage, we can often make the hair smooth again,
because all of my menus focus on hair repair and hair quality improvement.
With one treatment, damaged hair can improve a lot.
However, protecting the hair is always my first priority.
So if I feel that straightening is truly unsafe,
I will honestly say,
“Let’s not do it this time.”
If hair becomes extremely damaged once,
it is very hard to return it to a healthy state.
It is much better to keep your hair safe for the long term.
In these cases, I always offer another plan
to help you grow healthy, beautiful hair again.

⑦ When your hair changes, your daily life changes too

Clients often tell me:
-
Rainy days feel easier
-
Their morning routine is faster
-
They feel happy looking in the mirror
-
They feel more confident and relaxed
Straightening is not just about removing frizz.
It can change how you feel every day.
As someone with natural curls myself,
I know the feeling of relief and confidence after getting smooth, shiny hair.
⑧ Who is this treatment good for?
-
You want soft, natural straight hair
-
You want to avoid more damage
-
You have bleach or highlights
-
Your hair history is complicated
-
You don’t like super-flat straight hair
-
You want easier mornings
If this sounds like you, feel free to talk with me anytime.
Let’s find the best way to make your hair healthy and beautiful.

With love,
Sachi – Moana Malie Hair
