Curly Haircut in Tokyo | More Volume for Natural Curls ✂️
Hello everyone!
I’m Sachi from Moana Malie Hair, a hair salon in Harajuku, Tokyo.
I love creating hairstyles for naturally curly and wavy hair, and helping people enjoy their own hair texture.
Beautiful Autumn Days in Tokyo 🍂

It’s finally getting cooler here in Japan!
We are enjoying some beautiful autumn weather this October.
In recent years, summer has been very long in Japan. Sometimes, it was still around 35°C even in October!
So I’m happy that my international guests visiting Japan this autumn can enjoy the nice, cool weather.
One of my favorite things about my salon is the view from the windows.
You can see the beautiful trees of Meiji Jingu Shrine, the sky, Harajuku Station, trains passing by, and people walking along the streets.
I started to see some leaves changing color around September this year. I thought, “Oh, autumn is coming early this year!”
I really love this view.
Harajuku is a busy and exciting area, but the forest of Meiji Jingu is very peaceful.
When you visit my salon, I hope you can relax, enjoy the view, and have a nice time while getting your hair done. ♡
A Curly Haircut for My Guest from Switzerland
Today, I’d like to share a curly haircut for a lovely guest from Switzerland.
She has beautiful natural curls, but some parts of her hair are curlier than others.
Some curls are strong and bouncy, while other parts are softer and a little flat.
She wanted more volume and a better shape, but she also wanted to keep her natural curls.
So we talked about her hair and what kind of style she wanted.
My goal was to create more volume and movement, while keeping her curls soft and natural.
Why Are Some Parts of Curly Hair Different?
Did you know that curly hair is not always the same all over your head?
For example:
- You may have strong curls around your face, but softer waves at the back.
- One side may be curlier than the other.
- Your ends may be curly, but your roots may be flat.
- Some parts may have more volume than others.
This is very normal!
Your hair can have different curl patterns in different areas.
Hair length, thickness, weight, and damage can also change how your curls look.
That’s why curly haircuts need special care and attention.
I always try to understand how each part of the hair moves before deciding on the best shape.
Is Adding Layers Enough for More Volume?
Many people think that adding layers is the best way to get more volume in curly hair.
Layers can help, but it’s not always that simple.
Curly hair often looks longer when it’s wet.
When it dries, the curls become shorter and spring up.
This is called shrinkage.
And different parts of the hair can shrink by different amounts.
So even if we cut two sections to the same length, they may look different when the hair is dry.
Also, if we remove too much hair, the ends can become too thin, and the curls may lose their nice shape.
That’s why I think it’s important to find the right balance.
Where do we need more volume?
Where should we keep some weight?
How can we make the whole shape look beautiful?
These are some of the things I think about when cutting curly hair.
My Approach to Her Curly Haircut ✂️
For this guest, I wanted to create a softer, fuller shape.
I looked at the areas with stronger curls and the areas that were a little flatter.
Then I worked on the shape and balance of her haircut.
I didn’t want to make every curl look the same.
Instead, I wanted to work with her natural curl pattern.
Of course, a haircut can’t change your natural curl pattern.
But a good haircut can help your curls look more balanced and bring out their natural beauty.
In the end, her hair had more volume, beautiful movement, and a soft, natural shape.
I really loved the result! ♡

I Love Natural Curly Hair! 💗
In Japan, many people with curly or wavy hair want to make their hair straight.
And that’s completely fine!
But I also love helping people enjoy their natural curls.
Every person’s curls are different.
Some are soft, some are strong, and some are a mix of curls and waves.
I think that’s what makes curly hair so interesting and beautiful.
My goal is not to make everyone’s hair look the same.
I want to find a hairstyle that works with your own hair, your face, and your lifestyle.
